Library Services

Reading Areas :

The Greenbrier County Library offers several reading areas throughout our library.  Beyond the main reading area, located near the windows  across from our main, upper level entrance, there are reading areas in the Juvenille and Young Adult areas as well as in the north-east and south-east corners of the building.

Reference Materials :

We offer reference books, such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, pricing guides, maps, atlases, and many local history.  These materials may be used for research on site or photocopied, but may not be checked out.

Notary Public :

The Greenbrier County Library normally has three notary publics available during normal business hours before 5 p.m.  There is no fee for notarizing at the Greenbrier County Library. If a notary is needed after 5 p.m. or on weekends, call to check about availability.

Local History Room :

Our new facility contains a local history room in which we have our reference collection of books pertaining to the history of our part of the state.  It is not the most extensive collection and there is limited genealogical material within it.  Anything that we do not have on hand is likely to be found at the Greenbrier County Historical Society, located in the North House Museum, just down the hill from our facility.  As with all of our reference materials, the books in our Local History Room may not be checked out.

Tax Forms :

We offer State & Federal tax forms on-site during tax season.  If there you need forms that we do not have on hand, we are able to print them from the IRS website in most cases.

FAX Service:

For sending faxes we  charge $2 for the first page and $1 for each additional page.  For FAXes to toll free numbers we charge $2 for the first 5 pages and $1 for each additional page. For receiving FAXes, we charge $1 per page with a ceiling of $3.  You can therefore receive as many FAXed pages as necessary, but we will only charge up to $3.

Photo Copier :

We charge $0.25 per photocopied page. We do not offer scanning services or printing directly from mobile devices.

Laser printing :

We charge $0.10 fee per page and can print in black & white only.

Inter Library Loans :

The Greenbrier County Public Library participates in an Interlibrary Loan service in order to obtain materials not available in our collection.  This service depends on the generosity of public and academic libraries across the state.  For security reasons interlibrary loan materials must be signed out from the front desk. In order to receive this privilege the borrower agrees to:  1.  Accept responsibility for materials between signing out and signing in. This includes cost of damage to or loss of borrowed item. 2. Return the materials by the date due marked on the interlibrary loan slip. Not returning materials to the lending library on time may jeopardize our ability to continue receiving interlibrary loan services from that library. Please make every effort to return this material by the due date.  Please note: Borrowers are required to have a valid library card in order to check out Interlibrary Loan materials.

Computer/Internet Access :

The GCPL offers computer and internet access free of charge.  Patrons are given a 1 hour time limit for computer usage, however, we do not ask patrons to relinquish their computers unless we have other patrons waiting to use them.  We also offer wireless internet access. Wireless logins and passwords are available at the circulation desk.

Databases :

See database page.

DVDs :

We offer both popular release movies as well as children's movies on DVDs .

Paperback Book Exchange :

You can bring in a paperback book and take one from our exchange section.  Please note: If there is a colored dot and a library spine label on the spine of the book you are taking, that is not an exchange book, but is part of our collection and must be checked out.

Audio Books :

We offer a wide selection of books on CD and audio books for download to your personal player through the WV Reads program.  See the staff for more details.
