Children’s Collection

Besides books, movies, audio books, and magazines, the children's department also includes a computer with educational software especially designed for children. Or your child can relax by playing with puzzles, games or various toy sets.

                                        

Computers

Internet access is available at the library. A library card is required to sign in to use the computers. Children 12 and under may use the computers with a parent/adult present. Children13 years of age or older may access the Internet without being accompanied by a parent but will need a signed release form to use without a parent or adult.  

Online Resources for Kids

These websites offer reliable information to help students with homework assignments.  For some sites you may need to enter user name and password provided by the library.

WVInfoDepot.org is a great site that is funded by the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) via the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through the West Virginia Library Commission. Additional resource funding is provided by the State of West Virginia.

Explora Primary - Research tool for elementary grade students.

World Book Encyclopedia – Reliable information for homework, reports, or general questions.

World Book Kids – For elementary users. Includes lesson plans, science activities, comparable animal and geography features, interactive maps, challenging games, and biographies.

World Book Student – Content for upper-elementary and middle-grade users. Includes resources where users can save, notate, and organize articles, biographies, and other content. Early World Of Learning, World Book eBooks, and World Book Timelines.

NoveList Plus K-8 and NoveList Plus - Find just the right book by subject, age, awards won, Lexile Reading levels, State standards; even books made into movies, and much more. Read reviews and learn about the author.

Niche Academy - Online tutorials for databases and web applications, like Gmail, Pinterest, and more.

LearningExpress Library - Online academic and career practice tests. Areas covered include SAT preparation courses, SAT practice exams, elementary, middle and high school skills improvement (including math and English) and more.
